Zum Beginn der WSOP in Las Vegas gab es prominenten Besuch. Am Mittwoch landete die berühmte Air Force One des Präsidenten Obama auf dem Airport in Las Vegas.
Obama besuchte den Turnierraum des Caesar Palace bei einer Wohltätigkeitsveranstaltung des “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s re-election fund“.Viele Poker-Pros waren nicht sehr erfreut über den Besuch des mächtigsten Mannes der Welt. Vor allem die durch Obamas Flugzeug ausgelösten Verspätungen stießen des Pros übel auf. Maria Ho äußerte sich via Twitter: „Präsident Obama ist gerade auf dem McCarran Airport mit seiner Air Force One gelandet und somit verspätet sich mein Flug um eine Stunde.“ Tiffany Michelle twitterte: “Man sieht nicht jeden Tag die Air Force One auf dem Flughafen von Vegas. Ich denke, dadurch ist es nicht ganz so mies, dass sich mein Flug verspätet.“Noch weniger begeistert war der Gouverneur von Las Vegas Jim Gibbons. Er weigerte sich sogar, den Präsidenten überhaupt zu treffen. Grund hierfür ist ein Statement Obamas im Bezug auf Banken, die Hilfsgelder von der Regierung erhalten. Er sagte: „Es geht nicht, dass ihr auf Kosten der Steuerzahler Trips nach Vegas macht oder zum Superbowl fahrt.“ Nach Ansicht des Gouverneurs sei Vegas hierdurch ein Millionenschaden entstanden. Obama solle sich entschuldigen, ließ er verlauten.
