In einem stark besetzten Feld von 185 Spielern, die 10.000 Dollar Startgeld für die Limit Hold’em World Championship entrichtet hatten, setzte sich am Ende der Kanadier Greg Mueller durch.
Mueller sicherte sich damit nicht nur das Bracelet, sondern auch die stolze Siegesprämie von 460.836 Dollar. Dabei konnte er Stars wie Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle und Todd Brunson sowie Limit-Hold’em-Spezialistin Jennifer Harman hinter sich lassen. Im entscheidenden Heads-Up hatte Mueller schon zu Beginn einen klaren Vorsprung gegenüber Pat Pezzin, der ihm nicht mehr entglitt.In der letzten Hand des Turniers raiste Mueller vom Button und nach Pezzins Call brachte der Flop Kh3c2h. Pezzin setzte zunächst und war nach Muellers Raise mit seinem Call All-In. Sein Blatt 10d8s bot allerdings wenig Hoffnung, wenngleich er gegen Muellers 5s5dnoch 6 Outs hatte. Turn und River brachten jedoch Qd und Ks, wodurch Pezzins Träume ein Ende fanden. Platz 2 und 285.196 Dollar Preisgeld für ihn.Unter den letzten 12 Spielern, die das Finale bestritten, befanden sich auch noch zwei Damen, die allerdings als erste ihre Plätze räumen mussten. Jennifer Harman, die zeitweilig die Chiplead innegehabt hatte, verlor zunächst zwei Pots in Folge und schob dann mit Ah4hihre restlichen Chips gegen Greg Mueller in die Mitte. Der spätere Turniersieger hielt Ks10s, traf nach 5d7d5c2d auf Flop und Turn die 10c auf dem River und schickte Harman aus dem Turnier. Platz 12 für die sympathische Amerikanerin sowie ein Preisgeld von 41.040 Dollar.
