How profitable is live poker?
A question I get asked a lot is, how much can pro players make playing live? At this time of year, many players heading off to the WSOP are looking to play in the live arena for a month when their day job is grinding online. Especially after Black Friday, live poker is more likely now to become their day job.

Betting out of position: the power of the donk lead
By Paul Zimbler
Making the maximum from your hands is the key to being a winning player. We all know the importance of playing in position, but what about those times when you’re forced to play out of position? How can we turn it to our advantage? Well, sometimes it’s good to bet your hands out of position (some call this a donk lead) because many players smell weakness in this situation and we can actually use it to get the max.

The Skill Game Paradox
By Alex Rousso
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post on my Unibet Ambassador blog entitled “Apokerlypse 2: Black Friday”. I’m thinking you can guess what the subject material was. A reply I received to the post was what prompted me to write this month’s piece.

Triple-range what?
Dear Dr Tom
I hear people talking about triple range merges and stuff like that, but I don’t even know what a single range merge is. Help, please. Is poker passing me by?

Life Variance
You may have heard of “Life Tilt”. This month I want to introduce a new term: “Life Variance”. I love poker terms which cross over into general life. They allow us poker obsessives to assert that our pastime has actually helped us grow as people.

The Shape of Things to Come
March 3rd could have been a momentous day in the history of online gaming. It was the last day New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could have vetoed a bill allowing internet gambling in his State. If he had not acted by the end of the day, the bill would have become law.
Blind on Blind

Day 1 in a multi-day tournament should be treated with care; a little bit like warming up before sports event. There are many different things to consider and many approaches to take, but the main aim of the day is to survive. If you are in, you can win.

Welcome to the cheap seats
Dear Dr Tom,
What is the best approach for playing cheap live tournaments (£20 to £50 buy-in) with a super-fast structure and 20 to 30 minute levels? Should I treat them like online turbos or can you afford to be more patient than that? The quality of opposition seems very poor.

Team Poker
By Paul Jackson
A lot of people have an issue with the concept of a “team game” of poker because they see the idea of any kind of team collusion as outrageous. Before I get onto my opinions of team poker, I’d like to share a few opinions about poker players in general (in the UK at least) and their blind, unquestioning trumpeting for certain traditional poker do’s and don’ts.
