Can anyone recommend any good places to play poker around Clapham / Balham area?

I want something local as I'm too lazy to trek all the way into central London.

The Royal Surrey is pretty good, just by the Morden tube - only a few stops on the Northern line.

Only been a few times but always had a good night - helps that I won last time Wink

They have about 10 tables and games every night from about £30

i had a look at the website and it looks good, (snooker as well!) will definitely check it out.

Still a bit far for me to go on a regular basis, does anyone know of anywhere closer or preferably in Balham?

I'd have to agree with the Royal Surrey, good venue and very keen to promote poker. They have Jimmy White nights there as well which is always a good crack.

If not, not exactly close, but you could try The Walrus in Waterloo - good, friendly banter and weekly games of a good standard.

What do you want, one in your front garden? Morden will take less than 15 minutes to get to.

Otherwise I suggest you play online if you really are that lazy.

Poker's far too common for the Hollyoaks wannabes who live in Clapham.
Another pair of pints

I think with the amount of pub poker that has sprung up in the UK in the last couple of years, a lot of new/inexperienced poker players almost expect every pub to have a game on, which is why the OP might expect a game actually in Balham.

Steelerian is right though in that the 15 min trip to Morden really isn't too bad, compared to the availability of games that really are out there. There's also a big difference between a £5 game down your local and something like the Royal Surrey, which will be a bit more of a formal/up market affair. It's all a matter of what floats your poker boat, but do expect a commute of some sort.

Enjoy!

Pub Poker really comes in all forms from Free to Play Points Leagues, £5 Pub Poker and More - The hassle is in maintaining the numbers at any of these games. Outside of London you can play in Social/Working Mens Clubs where stake limits do not exit if the club has a gaming permit and poker is incidental to the main activities of the venue.

Many Pubs try a Poker NIght and for a few weeks it is great - then because the player base is low it only takes a big Football game or a Bad flu going round and the numbers dwindle and boom the night is gone.

Maybe if no night exists you could start one up yourself, find a venue speak to the landlord get a group of mates and build it organically - perhaps join up with www.LondonPokerMeetup.co.uk and post details of your game on the site.

Or maybe as Ian say's Just play online if it is all too much hassle

That site is somewhat out of date. I recall that some siginifcant membership fees were mentioned at Poker In The Park after the 1 month trial.

Anyone have the actual costs?
